Olympic Park: A lot of fun can be found at Olympic Park (505-377-4282). Olympic Park attractions include a softball diamond, tennis courts, basketball, fishing and children’s playground. Located off Highway 434 at the entrance to the Angel Fire Resort Country Club.

Scenic Ride: Purchase a chairlift ride on the Chile Express, from the base area of Angel Fire Resort. Ride to the top of the mountain for a spectacular view of Wheeler Peak, New Mexico’s highest point. Hike the trails, see the fields of wild flowers, and explore at the 10,677 foot summit. You can ride the chair back down, or hike down to the base. The Chile Express operates weekends Memorial Day through early October and daily in July and August.

Hiking: It’s available all over the mountain or head over to Carson National Forest, and hike the many Elliot Barker trails. The area is accessible from Angel Fire and it offers more than 40 world-class treks.

Mountain Biking: Take your mountain bike with you on the Chile Express and explore the many miles of riding terrain. Mountain Bikes are for rent, and and the Angel Fire Resort trained staff will find the one just right for you.

On the Water: Monte Verde Lake is another fun, summer attraction. This lake, owned by Angel Fire Resort, is the perfect fishing spot that’s stocked throughout the summer. Fishing equipment, bait, paddleboats, and rowboats are available. There is a day fee for fishing. You’ll also find picnic tables and barbecue grills. Eagle Nest Lake has 2,200 surface acres. It’s 11 miles northeast of Angel Fire, offering year-round fishing for trout and salmon. You’ll find boat rentals and fishing guides. This lake is owned and operated by the State of New Mexico and fishing in it requires a New Mexico State Park pass and a State of New Mexico fishing license.

Go fly-fishing in the Cimarron Canyon, 15 miles northeast of Angel Fire, in the heart of the Carson National Forest. You’ll find New Mexico’s finest blue-ribbon water and several varieties of Rocky Mountain trout, for some great catch and release. Fishing the Cimarron Canyon requires a New Mexico State fishing license. There are also free fly-fishing lessons at Monte Verde Lake (505-377-3213)every Saturday during the summer.

Go white water rafting down the Rio Grande and Rio Chama with Far Flung Adventures (800-359-2627 or 505-758-2628). Several types of trips are available along with river camping trips. Theatre And Music: Angel Fire Mountain Theater is live theater produced in association with Texas Tech University School of Theatre & Dance. Look for different plays performed daily during July. Also ask about the free theatre workshop for children ages six through 18.

Music from Angel Fire concerts are performed mid-August through Labor Day featuring world-class, internationally famous musicians performing chamber and classical music. The Angel Fire concerts and plays take place in the Angel Fire Community Center and the United Church of Angel Fire. For more information (888-377-3300).
